Mrs. Rose Cooray
New Vice Chairperson of the IBSL
Mrs. Rose Cooray was appointed as the Vice Chairperson of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka with effect form May 16, 2006, consequent to the resignation of the Vice Chairman Dr. A.G. Karunasena.
Mrs. Rose Cooray is an Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and has served the Central Bank in several departments for over 32 years. Mrs. Cooray served the Ministry of Finance in the capacity of Director General of the Department of Fiscal Policy and Economic Affairs from 1999 to 2004 on release from the Central Bank.
During her period of service in the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Cooray represented the Government on the Boards of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, De La Rue Lanka Currency & Security Print (Pvt) Limited, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, DFCC Bank and Sri Lanka Telecom Limited. She also represented the Ministry of Finance on the Tariff Advisory Council.
Mrs. Cooray has participated in loan negotiations on behalf of the Government and the Central Bank with international organizations and has represented Sri Lanka in negotiating Free Trade Agreements with several countries.
She has a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from the University of Peradeniya and a Masters Degree from the University of Strathclyde, U.K. |

Dr.A.G. Karunasena
Outgoing Vice Chairman of the IBSL
Dr. A.G. Karunasena, Vice Chairman of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka retired from the service and the Governing Board of the IBSL with effect form 15th June, 2006. He holds a B.A. (Hons.), a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Economics. He has worked extensively in the area of economic policy, and has represented Sri Lanka at a number of international/ regional economic forums. He has served in the Director Board of the NDB and as a member in a number of economic policy committees. He was the Senior Economic Consultant to the World Bank from 1992 to 1995, and Alternate Executive Director at the IMF from 1998 to 2000. Dr. Karunasena will commence his new carrier as the Executive Director of the South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Research and Training Centre in Kuala Lumbur, Malaysia, on the 1st July 2006.
The Institute wishes to place on records his vital services to the Banking & Financial Services sector and especially to the IBSL as a lecturer, examiner and the Vice Chairman. We wish him good luck with his new responsibilities also wishes him long life |

Mr. J.B.V. Fernando Governing Board member, IBSL has retired from services as a member of the Governing Board of IBSL consequent to his retirement from service of the Bank of Ceylon. The Institute appreciates his yeoman services and wishes him good luck in his retirement.
Mr. Fernando is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (London) and has obtained a distinction pass in the Executive Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo.
Mr. Fernando possessed banking experience spanning over 39 years in the Bank with remarkable contributions to Branch Banking and Development Banking. Having held the position of Deputy General Manager in charge of support services and Human Resources Development from the year 2001 he assumed duties as Deputy General Manager (Inspection / Audit) of the Bank in the year 2004, which position he held to his retirement. He is an Associate Faculty Member of the Bank's Central Training Institute. He was a Director / Member of Several subsidiaries, associate companies and committees of the Bank and was the President of the Bank of Ceylon Sport Club. Mr. Fernando has written several articles to the press and Banking Magazine on varied subjects. |
