Introduction to Practical Training
The Practical Training Requirement (PTR) has been introduced under the IBSL Professional Programme 2023 in alignment with NVQ Level 5 and 6 recognitions (pending) from the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
To obtain the IBSL professional qualification with NVQ endorsement, students are required to complete a six-month practical training period in a recognized banking or financial institution. This training requirement is mandatory for students seeking NVQ recognition upon completion of the DBF/HDBF. For students who do not intend to obtain NVQ recognition, the training is not mandatary.
The purpose of PTR is to provide students with hands-on exposure to the operational environment of banking and finance, bridging classroom knowledge with workplace practice. Trainees will work under the supervision of a senior officer assigned by the respective employers and are required to strictly adhere to the rules, regulations, and disciplinary standards of both the employer and the IBSL.
Objectives of the Practical Training:
By the end of the training period, trainees are expected to develop a practical understanding of:
- Organizational structures and workflows across departments.
- Products and services offered to customers and related processes.
- Customer service practices, staff interactions, and professionalism.
- Leadership and management approaches of senior officers.
- Risk areas in banking operations and mitigation systems.
- Ways to handle both frequent and rare workplace challenges.
- Essential personal and professional skills required to succeed in the banking and finance sector.
